Climate Controlled Wine Walls

Wine walls  are increasing in popularity in luxury homes where beautiful wines are showcased behind a climate controlled glass door with decorative lighting to create an ambiance. A wine wall frequently serves as a focal point in a home and can be a huge draw for home buyers.  Very few homes in Arizona are equipped with basements where wine is typically stored in built-in wine cellars therefore a wine wall is a dramatic and functional way to display a collection.

Did you even wonder what goes into adding a wine wall to your home?  This is truly not a DIY project and it’s best to consult with a wine cellar professional when deciding on the proper climate-controlled system.  They will conduct a heat load analysis (BTU load) to determine the proper equipment size for your space as it is essential to maintain 55-59 F degrees and 45-65% humidity.  Generally, thicker walls provide better insulation to keep the temperature consistent.  Insulation and a vapor barrier are critical in maintaining the temperature and preventing mold. Exterior full glass walls must be at least half an inch thick and sealed on all sides with rubber seals.  Glass doors need a bottom sweep or threshold to also properly seal the enclosure.

The wine wall interior decor is where you get to be creative.  Wood paneling, natural stone and rock accents offer endless design possibilities to create a unique design but never use carpeting as mold loves it.  Smart LED lighting can create different moods for different events.  Floor to ceiling metal wine racks can hold hundreds of bottles beautifully displayed with their labels facing out.   A wine wall is a great investment and can easily become the crown jewel in your home while increasing it’s value.
